🔎 Spotlight: OpenAI launches Codex, an AI coding agent, in ChatGPT
Okay yes, another AI coding agent.
And I’m waiting for another tech company CEO to say that
“AI is replacing developers of my company”
Just to find out that all these companies career page still post require software developers. (duh…)
So because of vibe coding and AI code writers trend is going through the roof we have another one now
from Open AI and it’s called Codex… (I think they are very bad in naming their products)
OpenAI Codex, a new AI coding agent designed to assist software engineers by performing tasks like writing and debugging code.
Powered by an optimized AI model called codex-1, they claim that it aims to produce cleaner code and can even run tests iteratively.
What is really interesting here is every other AI code agent companies like cursor claims the same
but it’s OpenAI so I can accept it why they want a piece of pie here
What caught my attention first was the sheer ambition:
The technology itself: Codex is described as OpenAI's "most capable AI coding agent yet", powered by a version of their o3 model specifically optimized for software engineering tasks. It runs in a sandboxed virtual computer and can integrate with GitHub repositories.
The market context: OpenAI is launching Codex into a rapidly growing space where AI coding tools are becoming increasingly popular, with major tech companies claiming AI writes a significant portion of their code. I personally I think everyone saying AI is replacing developers is not true at all. The potential acquisition of another AI coding platform for $3 billion also underscores OpenAI's aggressive play in this market.
The product strategy: Integrating Codex into ChatGPT Pro, Enterprise, and Team subscriptions, with plans for wider access, shows the ambition to make AI coding capabilities a core part of their platform, alongside other specialized agents like Sora, Deep Research, and Operator.
I’m going to test it and will make tutorial to see is his useful or not
But till then I will say….
I think it’s just another AI coding platform, which is going to make mistakes and that’s where developers will come in to help.
Nothing new just companies trying to capture market share of AI coding
And this time it’s Open AI
